New Weekly Tally

So, especially after this week and last, where I bought several free after rebate items from Rite Aid and had the "I'm way over budget" scare, I've decided that I will not include these purchases in my weekly tallies if I get either the price I paid or more back from Rite Aid's program. And I will only do this for Rite Aid - not any mail away offers because those can't always be trusted. Additionally, I will use my credit card (earning rewards points) for all free after rebate items.

So that makes this week a little more reasonable.

Week of October 26th - November 1st (not counting Rite Aid trips):
Sunday October 26th Safeway $24.73
Sunday October 26th Girl Scouts $10.50
Monday October 27th CVS $0.22
Thursday October 30th CVS $2.18
Thursday October 30th Safeway $5.95

Running weekly tally: 43.58

Not sure if I'll be going out today, but I'll definitely be doing the Crest deal at Giant (there are coupons in today's circular) and then stopping at Safeway tomorrow (check your coupons for a Safeway election circular with a 10% off coupon!) for the 2 day specials and using the 10% off coupon!

Giant & Rite Aid

Today was the first real day that I was feeling reasonably well to go out and do things after the accident and we needed milk and well...

There are so many free after rebate items at Rite Aid this week. I knew I wasn't going to get all of them because there is no way I'm willing to wake up at 7am to get to a store by 8am only to be competing with every single soccer mom in Olney, but I did give it a shot around 9:30 and was pleasantly surprised to purchase most of the items I wanted to.

I bought:

$1.99 Chapstick shimmer berry
$3.99 Comtrex 20 ct
$10.99 Neti Pot (I've been meaning to get one of these for awhile, and the $3 off coupon pretty much sealed the deal - yes of course, I'll make $3 on a product I want anyway!)
$2.99 vanilla softlips 2-pack
$6.99 Simply Saline Sinus kit
$3.99 Excedrin Express Gels 20 ct
$4.79 Frosted Mini Wheats
$0.00 Buy 1 get 1 free Frosted Mini Wheats

- $3.00 Neti Pot coupon (link above)

= $32.73
I used what was left on a $20 giftcard and brought the total down to $19.79, so that's what I spent Oop, although I'll be getting $30.94 back from the rebates and I'm going to use the Chapstick rebate in (I believe) this week's paper to get $1.99 back. =)

Next was Giant. I really only needed to get milk, but I got some great deals!

$3.99 gallon skim milk
$3.99 Glade oil plug-in
$3.99 Glade oil plug-in
$1.85 QuakerSimple Harvest instant cinnamon apple granola on the reduced to quick sale table
$1.85 QuakerSimple Harvest instant cinnamon apple granola on the reduced to quick sale table
$.90 Campbells cream of asparagus condensed soup on the reduced to quick sale table
$.90 Campbells cream of asparagus condensed soup on the reduced to quick sale table
$.90 Campbells cream of asparagus condensed soup on the reduced to quick sale table
$1.50 Healthy Ones Turkey Breast
$1.43 4.33 lb of bananas (ripe $.33 a lb)
$.84 2 clear pencil boxes on clearance
$4.52 5.14 lb of gala apples (on sale in tote bag for $.88 lb)

- $1/1 Quaker Simple
- $1/1 Quaker Simple
- $.50/3 Campbells condensed creams
- $.75/1 Healthy Ones
- $3.99 Glade Oil plug-ins (buy 1 get 1 free coupon)
- $2.00 Glade promotion from last shopping trip
- $2.00 Glade promotion from last shopping trip

- $15.95 which I paid with a gift card, however, the Glade deal didn't work - the 2-$4 off next shopping trip coupons didn't print out, so the customer service lady gave me $8 in cash, reducing my trip Oop to $7.95 Oop (of course I used a gift card so I technically spent nothing out of pocket)

Running weekly tally: $19.79

Safeway and Questions about giftcards & rebates

As I found previously when I asked questions to my readers, or make that reader, well, that about sums it up. It seems not a lot of folks read this, but, where do you count rebate dollars in your budgets? For example, a few weeks ago I bought items to do the Kelloggs deal. I haven't submitted the receipts/UPCs yet (I plan to next week) but which budget do I add the $10 to? The week I receive the money? The week I purchased the items? For CVS bucks it is easy because I get them right away and don't count them during the one shopping trip in my Out of Pocket, because I am still paying the out of pocket amount... however, when I do use them, I subtract them as I would coupons. Rite Aid I haven't had to worry about because I've been using giftcards for all of my purchases. Speaking of giftcards...

I've been trying to limit my giftcards when I buy my weekly grocery items. I know that in a few months if I used the Giant gift cards every week, my budget will look nothing like it does now. I try to alternate places I shop with giftcards and without (I do most of my grocery shopping at Safeway which is a place I have no giftcards for - Giant, we will shortly have $54 worth of giftcards - but I only bought some meat there last week). So what does everyone do? Do you space it out? Do you use them right away and roll over the budgeted money to another week? Do you consider gift card money as spent in your budget and count the money spent but then deduct the savings and put them somewhere (say in a high yield savings account)? What do you do?

We are expecting a pretty awful storm/hurricane this weekend, Hanna here in the northeast so I decided to go food shopping today in case I can't go out over the weekend. I went to Safeway which is starting to be my favorite store to shop (it helps it is right across the street).

What did I buy?

$2.50 Dark Chocolate Chex Mix (this is highly addictive but so good)
$.69 can of corn
$.69 can of peas
$4.99 bottle of extra virgin olive oil
$2.64 3 Powerade
$3.00 3 Gatorade
$2.50 tortilla chips (the boyfriend wanted them after he saw them sitting for the luncheon yesterday)
$2.50 Snyders pretzals
$2.25 3 Yoplait creamy lights
$3.00 YoPlus 4 pack
$2.50 Activia 4 pack
$5.49 Scrubbing Bubbles scrubber (will get full amount back in rebate)
$3.99 Scrubbing Bubbles cleaner
$2.50 Arnold 100% wheat bread
$.50 marked down turkey breast (sell by 9/4)
$.50 marked down turkey breast (sell by 9/4)

- $1/1 Powerade
- $1/1 Powerade
- $1/1 Powerade
- $1/1 Activia
- $1/1 YoPlus
- $.60/3 Yoplait
- $.75/1 Scrubbing bubbles
- $.60/1 Chex Mix

= $33.60 Oop

(Will be mailing in rebate to get $5.49 back)

Running tally for this week: $57.87/$59.22
